Pioneer’s Kuro Elite: Best flat-panel HDTV ever

For once, the headline is not an exaggeration. We just finished testing the 50-inch PRO-111FD, and like most professional publications who got there first, and most viewers who have seen this TV or its 60-inch brother in action, we came away very impressed by what we saw--so much that we felt compelled to award the first "10" we've ever given for picture quality.

The Elite Kuro may cost a mint, but if you have the cash to burn and the discerning eye to appreciate the differences, it's worth it. It produced the deepest black levels we've tested outside of OLED and the most-accurate color, and in most other important picture quality areas it performed admirably. That's the short story.

Vizio VO32L LCD isn’t the cheapest, but it’s solid

Posted by Matthew Moskovciak on September 29th, 2008

When most buyers hear the name Vizio, they think of cheap HDTVs, but if you look at recent prices for LCDs, that's no longer the case. More established brands like Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung have all slashed their prices to meet Vizio. Luckily for the Vizio VO32L, that's not much of an issue, because it's a solid performer even without the price advantage.

The gritty details are all in the review, but the bottom line is that the VO32L has perfectly good image quality with relatively deep blacks and accurate primary colors, along with a nice connectivity suite, with three HDMI inputs and a VGA-style PC input. Our major gripe is that the blacks tended to look greenish in darker areas, but it's not a dealbreaker.

HDGuru.com has published a survey of the resolution capabilities of 125 high-definition televisions.

The survey was conducted by HDGuru's sole proprietor, Gary Merson, who subjected the sets to a variety of test patterns and recorded the results in a handy PDF table. The patterns tested for 1080i de-interlacing performance of both video and film-based sources, still resolution (bandwidth) and motion resolution.

The results of the tests make interesting reading for people who follow the evolution of HDTV technology....
